Service Learning Program (社會服務計劃)

Period: Sept to July (Whole year)

“Love cannot remain by itself --- it has no meaning.

 Love has to put into action and that action is service.”

Aim

To develop student’s empathy, patience and leadership skill through diverse voluntary opportunities. Students are putting what they have learnt from school into practice, to show concern, understand more about the needy as well as to share their love with our community.

Characteristics

n   School- based program to cater our students’ needs

n   Students- centered approach. Form teachers & social workers as facilitators during the process of decision making

n   Enhance students co-operation and communication skills through the process

n   Co-organize with different NGOs

S1

Every students are compulsory to join one school service team (responsible for OLE sub-com).

School

S2

Co-operate with NGOs. Students divided into groups to serve. Service targets for each class are diverse: e.g.: the elderlies, kids with mental disabilities & the minorities etc.

Community &

Hong Kong

S3

Participate in workshop offered by Crossroads Foundation*. Focus on poverty issues and understand more about physical disables in the 3rd world countries. To reflect how can we help as a member of global citizen.

Global

S4

Co-operate with NGOs. Students divided into groups & to plan what kind of services they would eager to organize or participate to reach a targeted service hours. Students are expected to have a more in-depth experience for their leadership development as well as personal growth.

Community/ Hong Kong/ Nation/ Global

S5

Participate in a half-day workshop offered by Crossroads Foundation*. Focus on poverty issues in the 3rd world countries and how can we help as a member of global citizen. Afterwards, students need to spend another half-day in the campsite doing voluntary services, such as packing 2nd-hand furniture into a cargo which would be transported to less developed countries.
